Viavi / Aeroflex IFR RD301A Features and Specifications *

The Aeroflex / IFR RD-301A avionics test equipment which satisfies simulation requirements for new generation noncoherent radar systems. The RD-301A will respond to radar transmitter pulse widths of 50 ns to 30 s in a frequency range of 9295 to 9500 MHz. All RF tests and measurements can be accomplished by connecting the RD-301A to the unit under test with the use of the supplied calibrated coaxial cable, waveguide coupler and dummy load.

• Heterodyne monitor output
• Contour boost capabilities
• Internal/external modulation for simulating target scintillation for turbulence detection radars
• Transmitter peak pulse measurements
• Automatic transmitter magnetron frequency tracking and digital readout
• (EFF) Transmitter effective peak pulse power measurements
• Built in PRF generator and digital readout
• Radar UUT sensitivity testing
• Two Year Limited Warranty
• Built-in IF sweep generator from 20 to 70 MHz and marker generator for IF and AFC testing
• Video detector, frequency discriminator and spectrum analyzer outputs

Benefits

• Provides complete testing and simulation of aircraft weather radar systems.
• Automatically acquires and tracks radar transmitter frequency for accurate troubleshooting.
• Measures radar transmitter peak pulse power and effective peak power.
• Supports Automatic Frequency Control (AFC) centering and alignment.
• Simulates turbulence targets using internal or external amplitude modulation.
• Evaluates radar receiver sensitivity and Minimum Discernible Signal (MDS).
• Eliminates the need for traditional echo boxes during AFC alignment.
• Provides comprehensive transmitter analysis through discriminator, detector, and heterodyne monitor outputs.
• Supports both RF and IF testing in a single portable test platform.
• Suitable for maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and performance verification of airborne weather radar systems.

Applications

The RD-301A Radar Test Set is designed for testing and maintenance of:

• Airborne weather radar systems
• X-band radar transmitters and receivers
• Non-coherent radar systems
• Narrow pulse marine radar systems
• Radar receiver sensitivity testing
• AFC alignment and verification
• Radar power measurements
• Magnetron performance analysis
• Radar contour threshold testing
• Radar turbulence detection system testing

Compatible Aircraft

The RD-301A interfaces directly with aircraft weather radar systems rather than specific aircraft models. It is commonly used on aircraft equipped with X-band weather radar systems, including:

• Commercial Airliners
• Business Jets
• Regional Aircraft
• Turboprop Aircraft
• Military Aircraft
• Helicopters equipped with weather radar

Note: Compatibility depends on the installed radar system rather than the aircraft platform.
